Denim, the real wardrobe saver and i’m sure you all agree! Its so much more than just a bit of fabric. To this day it is and remains to be a huge part of our lives because we are wearing it every single day! But why? Keep reading to find out.
History of Denim
Denim is one of the oldest fabrics and is continuously developing and has done for many years and proceeds to change to keep its top place in the latest trends. Its made out of cotton fibres using twill weave. One yarn is dyed Indigo and one is white which gives the denim its blue colour.
We wear it every day but do we actually know the history behind this glorious invention we cant now live without. Well lets take you back. It originates from France and the name ‘denim’ comes from “de Nimes” meaning “from Nimes”. It was first worn as jeans for work wear in the 1870’s because of its durability and comfort. By 1920 they were the most demanded item of clothing for men. This is when denim started to really take off. Thanks to Hollywood when actors started rocking the fabric in big hit films everyone wanted some. Now everyone’s is wearing it, men, women, children and even animals and furniture! Who can believe it work-wear to big fashion staple.
Jeans
What do you think of when you think of denim? Jeans? Well that’s just the beginning. There is such a range of denim clothing now that no other fabric can match up to. Lets start by talking about the very popular and much loved jean. We love them because there is so many different types of jean to suit each and every individual whether they are cuffed, cropped, stretched, ripped, distressed, flared, straight, dark, light, skinny, high waist and it doesn’t stop there! We just cant get enough, I’m sure many of us would live in jeans if we could.
Another reason to adore jeans is they never go out of fashion. Take flare low waist jeans for example they were all the rage from the late 60’s. They somewhat disappeared after the 80’s but they have made a comeback. I’m never throwing away my jeans again because you never know when your going to need them again. A very in jean at the moment is the dark wash straight leg, high waist jean. Click on the picture to view.
Shorts
Another powerful piece in the fashion world is denim shorts. Jean shorts which used to be referred to as cutoffs are just a shorter version of a pair of jeans so why wouldn’t we love them. They first become popular in 1970 and from then on we haven’t stopped buying them. Now not everyone thinks they can pull them off but let me stop you there! The amount of different styles and ways you can wear them, you have no excuse. They are perfect for anyone and any occasion. Perfect for holidays, perfect for lounging in, perfect for nights out, just an absolute perfect piece for that perfect look for any age, shape and size! Perfect!
