No lady’s wardrobe is complete without her very own range of denim. I mean, what can you not get in denim nowadays? Jeans, tops, jackets and even shoes! Anything you can think of you will be able to find.
This year was the year of jackets. Everywhere you went you’ll have seen people wearing denim jackets, whether it’s short or a full jacket, Everyone’s wearing them! Now the question is, have you got one?
What even is denim?
There are so many different types of denim; some are really thin whilst others are super thick and soft. Over the years, when I have been buying jeans, in particular, I have learned that these characteristics depend on the brand and price. The more expensive jeans are thicker and softer they are. And you guessed it, the cheaper priced jeans are thin. Personally, I believe those priced from £20 to £30 are perfect for any use. They aren’t too expensive that you won’t be worried about damaging them but also, they’re not too thin so they won’t stretch too easily.
I have always wondered what the true meaning of denim is; is it a type material? Is it a specific colour? Believe it or not, there is an actual definition. According to Google, denim is a ‘hard-wearing cotton twill fabric, typically blue and used for jeans and other clothing’. So, to put it simply, it’s pretty much any pair of thick cotton trousers. Find our what denim staples we all love in our blog Down For Denim.
For those of you who want to know, the word denim originates from the French term ‘Serge de Nîmes. This literally translates as serge from the city of Nîmes,’ where ‘serge’ refers to a type of twill fabric that has diagonal lines or ridges on both sides (according to Wikipedia). France really does hold a significance in the fashion world and that’s exactly why we love Paris.
Is double denim actually a crime?
We all get the cold tremble when double denim is mentioned, however, in reality, who hasn’t gone out in it? Despite being considered one of the biggest fashion crimes, double denim is gradually becoming a trend in the 21st century. This year everyone’s wearing it, whether they’re going about their daily business in blue jeans and a nice denim jacket or they’re cosy at home in jeans and need to pop out so quickly grab their denim jacket. Sometimes double denim is completely unavoidable and at icecoolfashion, we think it’s a fashion crime that you shouldn’t be ashamed of breaking.
